RG3 helps student with cerebral palsy go to prom

CLIFTON, Va. — Prom is one of the biggest events in a teenager’s life.

But for kids with disabilities, some can feel left out. A young man got the surprise of his life when a friend and a Redskins star athlete teamed up to make his prom dreams come true.

Centreville High School student Juwaan Espinal, 17, battles cerebral palsy. He can’t speak and uses a wheelchair, but he has many friends who wanted him to feel special at his prom Thursday night.

Classmates wheeled him out onto the field during a lacrosse game while friends hid behind a large sign that read “I know I’m not as cool as RG3, but will you go to the prom with me?”

Fellow classmate Morgan Assel emerged with his favorite athlete, Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, by her side.

She popped the question.

“Will you go to prom with me?” she asked.

Juwaan was all smiles.

“I’m just really excited and really grateful that RG3 came to help Juwaan,” he tells ABC7.

“It just really means a lot that people are willing to do this for him because he is such a special person and he really deserves it.”

Griffin says he was happy to help.

“You can tell he’s filled with life,” Griffin tells ABC7. “We make time in our schedules for stuff like this because it’s so worth it.”
