WASHINGTON – Former Redskins coach Joe Gibbs recently appeared on “The Colbert Report.” Despite the show’s comedic overtone, coach Gibbs had some great quotes to boot.

“I think it’s the greatest town to coach in,” said Gibbs, when asked about coaching the Washington Redskins. “That it’s the greatest sports franchise I think in the world.”

Gibbs also said that now he’s focusing on ministry and racing cars.

Coach Gibbs owns and operates Joe Gibbs racing, which has won three Sprint Cup Championships since 2000, and his ministry is called Game Plan for Life.

When asked about what it was like to coach the Redskins in the 1980s he responded, “It was one of the greatest experiences in my life.”

His teams won two Super Bowls in the 1980s, along with one in 1991, giving coach Gibbs a total of three Super Bowl rings.

Stephen Colbert was in classic comedic form during the segment, casually dropping one of Coach Gibbs’ Super Bowl rings after asking for permission to hold it.
