Training Camp Notebook: Race cars and RG3

RICHMOND, Va. – It was the second to last day at training camp and as the ‘Skins gear up for the Steelers, there was fun in store from a different kind of sport Thursday afternoon.

More Team Drills for Griffin

Robert Griffin III participated in team drills for the second straight day. He had eight sessions of work against scout team defense, taking 21 snaps and completing 14-15 passes.

Granted, it’s just against the scout team defense, so there isn’t much you can really tell from it, but definitely good signs that he was able to take 21 snaps in practice and look comfortable doing so.

The Redskins have one more practice, tomorrow, before Monday night’s game against the Steelers. With probably two days of practice next week, we might see Griffin take a few more snaps in the 11-on-11 team drills. This week he was limited to only scout team work. Mike Shanahan has the plan, we will wait until next week to see what the next phase might be.

Injury Update

  • Brian Orakpo suffered a right quadriceps bruise at practice. It doesn’t sound too serious. We will get an update tomorrow.
  • Dante Stallworth sat out practice again and said that he is aiming to play in the final two preseason games.

Attendance

There were 9,844 fans in attendance, bringing the total for training camp to 155,059. It’s been a great turnout here in Richmond, with one more day remaining.

Richmond International Raceway

The highlight of my day came at around 10:30am when I put a racing helmet on and sat in the passenger seat of a race car driven by Greg Biffle. I was one of the fortunate ones that got to take a few practice laps around the Richmond International Raceway. He only took it to about 90 mph, but the experience was tremendous. Video and Pictures coming soon. 16 days of training camp in the books, just one left. Practice begins at 10:35am on Friday.
