Lions safety Don Carey back at practice

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — Detroit safety Don Carey is back on the practice field after missing the first two games because of a hamstring injury.

If Carey can return this weekend against Green Bay, it could provide a boost to a secondary that has already lost Bill Bentley and Nevin Lawson to season-ending injuries. Safety James Ihedigbo has also been out with a neck issue.

The secondary is one of Detroit’s biggest concerns, along with the team’s kicking game. The Lions don’t appear to be on the verge of changing their kicker. Rookie Nate Freese has missed all three of his attempts from at least 40 yards this season, but coach Jim Caldwell said Wednesday he expects Freese to be the team’s choice again Sunday.
