RB Demps, S Wright among Buccaneers final cuts

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Olympic sprinter Jeff Demps and veteran safety Major Wright are among the final cuts for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Coach Lovie Smith trimmed the roster to the 53-player limit Saturday, releasing Wright and defensive lineman Ronald Talley and waiving Demps, quarterback Mike Kafka and four other players.

Demps made his NFL debut last year, appearing in two games after joining the Bucs following the close of his track and field season. He was a member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic 4×100 relay team that won a silver medal at London, and initially entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with New England.

Unable to obtain a full-time commitment from Demps, the Patriots traded him to Tampa Bay in exchange for LeGarrette Blount in April 2013.

Tight end Cameron Brate, linebacker Brandon Magee, defensive tackle Matthew Masifilo and receiver Solomon Patton also were waived.
