Jets’ Vick briefly leaves Chiefs game after blow

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Jets quarterback Michael Vick briefly left Sunday’s game in Kansas City after taking a hard shot while delivering an incomplete pass early in the fourth quarter.

The Jets were facing fourth-and-goal at the Kansas City 3 when Vick threw a pass to the end zone. Just as he let go, he was hit by Chiefs linebacker Josh Mauga and slammed to the ground.

Vick remained down for a moment and trainers came out to meet him. He walked unsteadily off the field, and two members of the Jets staff were seen asking him questions on the sideline.

The Jets were already without Geno Smith, who was inactive with a shoulder injury. Matt Simms, who had been promoted from the practice squad, replaced Vick on the next series.

Vick returned to the game with just under 5 minutes left and Kansas City leading 24-10.
