Ryder Cup star Patrick Reed to play in Match Play

VIRGINIA WATER, England (AP) — U.S. Ryder Cup rookie standout Patrick Reed is in the field for next week’s Volvo World Match Play Championship in England.

Francesco Molinari, Pablo Larrazabal, Jonas Blixt and Paul Casey also join the 16-man field for the Oct. 15-19 event at the London Golf Club in Kent.

Reed, winner of two U.S. PGA Tour events this year, went unbeaten in the Ryder Cup defeat at Gleneagles, earning a team high 3 1/2 points.

The field includes six members of Europe’s winning Ryder Cup team: Defending champion Graeme McDowell, Henrik Stenson, Thomas Bjorn, Jamie Donaldson, Victor Dubuisson, and Stephen Gallacher.

Also qualified are Thongchai Jaidee, Alexander Levy, Joost Luiten, Shane Lowry and Mikko Ilonen.
