Angels’ Richards loses no-hit bid in 7th inning

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Garrett Richards of the Los Angeles Angels lost his bid for a no-hitter with no outs in the seventh inning when Dustin Pedroia singled through the middle to leadoff on Saturday night.

Richards hadn’t allowed a hit to the Red Sox through the first six innings. The Angels lead 2-0.

The Angels’ starter was trying to become the fourth pitcher throw a no-hitter this season. Josh Beckett and Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers and Tim Lincecum of the Giants have accomplished the feat.

The Angels have thrown 10 no-hitters, including one perfect game, in franchise history with the last coming on May 2, 2012 by Jered Weaver.
