Ryan Dalziel takes Road America pole

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (AP) — Ryan Dalziel won his second straight TUDOR United SportsCar Championship pole Saturday, finishing his final qualifying lap in 1 minute, 55.166 seconds in the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase at Road America.

Dalziel averaged 126.537 mph in the Extreme Speed Motorsports No. 1 HPD ARX-03b/Honda that he will co-drive Sunday with Scott Sharp.

“The track changed over the last couple of sessions,” Dalziel said. “We went back to how (the car) first rolled off the truck.”

The Prototype points-leading duo of Christian Fittipaldi and Joao Barbosa qualified second in the No. 5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP.

John Edwards had a lap at 2:03.747 to take the pole position in the GT Le Mans class.

“It was a fun session,” said Edwards, who co-drives the No. 56 BMW Team RLL BMW Z4 GTE with Dirk Mueller. “There was a lot more grip. We gained 1.8 seconds from the last practice. I’m still baffled by how everyone gained that much time.”

In the Prototype Challenge class, Bruno Junqueira turned a lap in 1:59.411 for his third pole of the season in the No. 09 RSR Racing ORECA FLM09 he shares with Duncan Ende.

James Davison led qualifying in the GT Daytona class, winning his first pole of the season in the No. 007 TRG-AMR Aston Martin V12 Vantage with a lap at 2:09.079.
