Lil’ Wayne loves the Caps, announces ‘real’ online sports show

WASHINGTON — Merry Christmas … Lil’ Wayne is a Caps fan.

The rapper and self-proclaimed “sports child” announced his intentions on Christmas Eve to start a weekly online sports show, dubbed “Weezy’s Sports Corner.” The 29-year-old founder of Young Money Entertainment named D.C.’s hockey team among his favorites, along with the Packers, the Lakers, the Red Sox, Manchester United, LSU football and USC basketball.

Born Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr., he started his interest in sports commentary during his recent stint in prison, based off the lifelong love of sports he learned from his mother and grandmother.

“I don’t know if you’re familiar, but when I was locked up, I was blogging,” he says in his accouncement video.

Carter explains his show will provide an opportunity for a “no holds barred” discussion with other sports personalities.

In the video, he takes off his sunglasses, puts on oversized reading glasses, consults a script and adds “this will be an unscripted show.”

He also teases his participation in an upcoming ESPN “real sports show,” (adding of his new blog, it’s “not like this isn’t a real sports show,”) called “The Sports Rap” featuring sports journalist Rob Parker and retired NBA player Jalen Rose.
