Naval Academy professor under fire

WASHINGTON (AP) — A civilian professor at the U.S. Naval academy and an outspoken critic of the institution now says school officials are trying to silence him with a formal reprimand that could potentially end his career.

English teacher Bruce Fleming has derided the Annapolis academy for its policies and practices in national media outlets.

Fleming’s latest troubles began more than a year ago as the academy was plunged into the national debate over how to stop sexual assault.

The Washington Post reports (http://wapo.st/1wrFU2z ) that the 60-year-old Fleming was investigated — then cleared — for making disparaging comments about the school’s sexual assault prevention training in class and in emails to two female students. The investigation was reopened and Fleming was reprimanded after he filed complaints about the two women.

Fleming is appealing.
