3 fight for lives after school shooting

MARYSVILLE, Wash. (AP) — Three students are fighting for their lives in Seattle-area hospitals after being shot in the head during at their high school last week.

The two 14-year-old girls and a 15-year-old boy are in critical condition. Officials say a fourth victim, a 14-year-old boy, is in serious condition and showing improvement.

All four remain in intensive care.

A girl was killed in the shootings on Friday, along with the gunman, who is described by fellow students as a popular, 14-year-old freshman who had recently been in a fight over a girl. Authorities say he died of a self-inflicted gunshot, but it’s unclear if he intentionally killed himself or if the gun went off in a struggle with a teacher.

The Snohomish (snoh-HOH’-mish) County medical examiner’s office says it doesn’t expect to have autopsy results before tomorrow.
