Arrest made in Indiana State University shooting

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — Indiana State University police have arrested a student from Indianapolis in the shooting of another student in a residence hall stairwell at the Terre Haute campus.

Police Chief Joe Newport says in a news release that 21-year-old Calvin McCauley of Indianapolis was arrested Sunday on a preliminary charge of attempted murder. Newport says McCauley is scheduled to make a preliminary court appearance Monday.

It is not immediately clear if McCauley has an attorney.

Investigators determined that McCauley and the shooting victim are acquainted and that they had spent time together before the shooting about 6 p.m. Saturday at the Lincoln Quad residence hall.

Newport says the 20-year-old victim underwent surgery Sunday to remove a bullet from his left buttock, is doing well and is expected to make a full recovery.
