Marker to recognize Virginia Rosenwald school

ORANGE, Va. (AP) — A state historical marker is set to rise at a school in Orange where young African-American children were educated in segregated Virginia.

The marker will be formally dedicated Saturday in recognition of the Orange Graded School, which was built in 1925 with funding from the Julius Rosenwald Fund. Local black residents also raised money for the school.

Rosenwald schools educated thousands of African-Americans across the Jim Crow South.

The historic marker was issued by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources.
