Culpeper and Fauquier students go back to school

WASHINGTON — The first students returning to class for the 2014-2015 school are back in class Monday in Culpeper and Fauquier counties.

Drivers are urged to watch for kids going back to class.

In Culpeper, the construction of the Colonel Jameson Boulevard project linking Sperryville Pike to Va. Business 29 will mean detours on the town’s two major thoroughfares. The road closures include the following:

  • Virginia Avenue will be closed from First Street to Sperryville Pike.
  • Old Rixeyville Road will be closed from West Williams Street to West Fairview Road.

Southbound traffic along James Madison Highway is being funneled into one lane as it approaches a temporary stoplight at its intersection with North Main Street.

In Fauquier County Public Schools, new student fees are in place. They include a $40 fee for renting musical instruments and a $60 fee per high school student for participation in school sports. Here’s a look at all of the fees.

Most Virginia schools go back to class after Labor Day.
