Teen charged with conspiracy in burglaries

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — A teenager has been charged with conspiracy after a home was burglarized in the weeks before a German exchange student was shot to death in the garage.

Bail was set at $10,000 for 18-year-old Tristan Staber, who appeared in court on Thursday. Prosecutors say Staber drove a car and served as a lookout while a 16-year-old friend allegedly took items from Markus Kaarma’s vehicle and garage.

Prosecutors say Kaarma, 29, was so fed up with being burglarized that he told a hairdresser he was sitting up waiting to catch some kids and shoot them.

On April 27, 17-year-old Diren Dede was shot in Kaarma’s garage. Kaarma is charged with deliberate homicide.

Staber’s 16-year-old friend is expected to be charged in youth court.
