CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - The University of Virginia School of Law will offer a new public-service program.
School officials say up to 20 first-year students and five second-year students will be admitted each year for the program, which will hold its first course in the spring.
The program will include courses, independent study and mentoring to prepare students for legal careers with government, human rights groups, public defender offices that serve indigent clients, and other related jobs.
Law professor Jim Ryan says students in the program will be eligible for grants to do public service work during the summer.
