WASHINGTON (AP) - It will be at least two more weeks before speeders face fines in highway work zones in Maryland.
More than 900 motorists have received warnings since the state started to use two automated speed cameras in highway work zones last month.
The State Highway Administration is extending the warning phase for at least another two weeks before drivers receive $40 fines for speeding. Officials say the goal is to give people a chance to change their driving behavior before the citations begin.
The cameras will rotate among work zones throughout the state and signs indicating that cameras are in use will be placed ahead of the areas.
