I-270 resurfacing project starts this week

September 7, 2009 - 8:04am
GERMANTOWN, Md. -- The second phase of a $10 million safety and resurfacing project starts this week along a 4-mile stretch of southbound Interstate 270 between Middlebrook and Muddy Branch roads.

Crews will be grinding and resurfacing all lanes of I-270 between the two roads.

They also be resurfacing the ramps at the interchanges with Md 117 (W. Diamond Avenue), Md. 124 (Montgomery Village Avenue/Quince Orchard Road) and Middlebrook Road. Drainage improvements and sidewalk, curb and getter improvements will be done, as well as guardrail and concrete median replacements.

Drivers should expect single lane closures along I-270 weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Expect closures overnight Sunday through Thursday between 7 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. Look for double lane closures overnight Sunday through Thursday between 8 p.m. until 4:30 a.m.

The State Highway Administration says crews will close one of the collector-distributor lanes between Middlebrook Road and the ramp to Md. 117 Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and overnights Sunday through Thursday between 7 p.m. and 4:30 a.m.

The next two Fridays and Saturdays, milling and paving will be done. That will mean double lane closures between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Sept. 11 to Sept. 12 and Sept. 18 to Sept. 19.

You should expect intermittent closures on the ramps to and from Md. 124, Middlebrook Road and Md. 117 overnight Sunday through Thursday between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. as F.O. Day Co. does the work. Your detours will be Md. 118 (Germantown Road) and Md. 355 (Frederick Road).
