BARRINGTON, R.I. (AP) — Voting in one Rhode Island town next Tuesday won’t be quick.
The Providence Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1E52Qa9 ) that voters in Barrington will confront 40 ballot questions proposing changes in how government operates.
Some are small matters, such as whether references to “qualified electors” should be changed to “registered voters.”
Others would determine if the Town Council meets nine times a year or continues to gather monthly and should the School Committee submit its proposed budget earlier.
Another question asks if the council should waive the residency requirement for the town manager.
Board of Elections Executive Director Robert Kando said he’s concerned about the numerous questions. He says officials asked the Board of Canvassers to send the questions with a page that voters can mark and bring to the polls.
The 40 questions are listed on the town website: www.barrington.ri.gov .
