Man dismissed from lawsuit over 2011 DC crash

WASHINGTON (AP) — A man involved in a fatal crash while driving a Swiss Embassy vehicle has been dismissed from a civil lawsuit over the 2011 accident.

A judge dismissed Kamal Mortada from the lawsuit Monday. Mortada has been identified as the driver in the accident that killed 64-year-old Trudith Rishikof. Rishikof’s husband filed a $10 million civil lawsuit against Mortada and the Swiss government over the accident. The judge wrote Mortada, who was working for the embassy when the accident occurred, is entitled to immunity.

The case made headlines because of the re-emergence of Mortada, one of two servants who reported to Geneva police in 2008 that they were beaten by a son of the late Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi.

An attorney for Mortada didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
