Financial motive cited in killing of NY woman

NEW CITY, N.Y. (AP) — A court document says money was the motive in the killing of an 80-year-old New Yorker whose daughter-in-law has been charged with murder.

A criminal complaint made public Thursday alleges Diana Nadell of Cutler Bay, Florida, was after part of a $4 million estate.

Nadell was arrested earlier this week in the Jan. 25 stabbing of Peggy Nadell at her Valley Cottage home.

The complaint says she lured her mother-in-law to the door with a phone call before she was killed.

A complaint against a codefendant, Andrea Benson of Washington, D.C., says she agreed to help with the killing in exchange for money.

Prosecutors are seeking extradition.

Information on defense attorneys was not immediately available.

The victim was involved in local politics, environmental and women’s issues.
