Obama to Al Green: ‘I’m so in love with you’ (VIDEO)

WASHINGTON – Apparently the president wasn’t prepared to leave the Apollo Theater without a little musical performance himself.

While speaking at Harlem’s infamous venue commonly associated with African American performers, Barack Obama acknowledged the presence of singer the Rev. Al Green in the audience. His seemingly impromptu tribute was greeted by cheers from the traditionally vocal crowd.

The stunt was perhaps not as unchoreographed as it initially appears. After scatting a few lines, the president turns to the wings, where his staff would be waiting, then back to the audience and says, “Those guys didn’t think I’d do it.”

“The sandman did not come out,” he says, referring to the late Howard “Sandman” Sims, a tap dancer responsible for ushering failed acts off stage during the venue’s storied “Showtime at the Apollo” performances.
