WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats’ committee to elect governors said Tuesday that it raised almost $20 million during July, August and September, taking its fundraising tally for the year to $47 million.

The Democratic Governors Association said the three-month haul was a record and double what it raised during the same period four years ago. The group, however, did not reveal how much of that it had banked so it’s impossible to know how much it spent.

Its GOP rival, the Republican Governors Association, has not yet released its fundraising summary for the three-month quarter that ended on Sept. 30. But the RGA typically outraises the DGA by a 2-to-1 margin and has been spending heavily on television ads to help GOP governors in tough re-election contests.

Voters will elect governors in 36 states on Nov. 4.
