MONROVIA, Liberia (AP) — Officials in Ebola ravaged West Africa say the gap between what’s being provided and what’s needed is still huge.
Six months into the world’s worst Ebola outbreak, and the first to happen in an unprepared West Africa, doctors are in short supply. So are patient beds.
Experts warn that the problem may become insurmountable unless promises of additional assistance are kept immediately.
Statistics reviewed by The Associated Press and interviews with experts and volunteers show how great the needs are and how little the world has done.
Meanwhile, the National Institutes of Health is preparing to care for an American doctor who was exposed while volunteering in Sierra Leone.
The physician is expected to be admitted to the special isolation unit at the NIH’s hospital near the nation’s capital as early as today, for observation. The other Americans recovered and one remains hospitalized.
