Man fakes blindness to rob check-cashing store

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles police are looking for a man they say pretended to be blind in order to rob a check-cashing store.

The Torrance Daily Breeze (http://bit.ly/WS7isT ) says video shows the man wearing dark glasses and walking with a white cane as he enters the store in Wilmington on July 24.

The man kept up the fraud for about 90 minutes, chatting with an employee and asking for help filling out an application. He claimed to have lost his sight while serving in the military in Iraq.

But the woman says when she opened the security door to give him a bottle of water, the man pulled a gun.

He fled with about $5,000.
