New, dangerous trend involves Burt’s Bees lip balm (Video)

WASHINGTON — There may be another new trend among teens looking for a buzz — and it involves a very common personal item.

Teens refer to it as “Beezin,'” and it involves putting Burt’s Bees lip balm on their eyelids, according to Richmond’s WTVR. The peppermint oil in the product creates a tingling sensation.

Medical experts, including Dr. Brett Cauthen, of the Today Clinic in Oklahoma City, told WTVR that applying the lip balm to eyelids can cause swelling and symptoms similar to pink eye (or conjunctivitis).

Parents are advised to keep an eye on how their children are using the balm.

Teens do not get high from the lip balm application, but say it produces an interesting tingling sensation.

Some people are doing this when they are already drunk or high for entertainment.
