Teens Arrested in Memorial Day Carjackings

June 1, 2006 - 5:10pm
BELTSVILLE, Md. -- Three teenagers have been arrested in connection with the carjackings and high speed police chases that injured more than 12 people over the Memorial Day weekend, Prince George's County police say.

Anthony Cannon and Terrelle Bailey, both 16, and 18-year-old Kevin Womack, all of Southeast D.C., have been charged as adults in connection with the May 28 carjackings.

Police believe the suspects are responsible for numerous crimes across Prince George's County.

The first carjacking occurred at VanDusen Road and Virginia Manor Drive in Beltsville.

Police say the suspects -- armed with Tek-9 handguns -- arrived in the area in a white Jeep Liberty, approached the victims, and took three trucks loaded with dirt bikes and ATVs.

A high speed chase ensued, and the carjackers crashed one of the stolen trucks at Rhode Island and Howard Avenue, police say.

Another truck was involved in a series of crashes along New Hampshire Avenue in Montgomery County that hospitalized more than a dozen motorists.

Both of the drivers fled on foot, leaving behind a wrecked Dodge Dakota and a semiautomatic handgun, police say.

The third truck -- a 2004 gray Chevrolet Silverado with Maryland tag 71N712 -- has not been recovered.
