Cafeteria Fight Sends Teen to Hospital

February 9, 2006 - 4:23pm
GAITHERSBURG, Md. -- A 16-year-old boy is hospitalized after a fight erupted at an area high school.

Students at Watkins Mill High School were having lunch when a fight broke out near the cafeteria, Montgomery County Police spokesperson Lucille Bauer says.

One of the boys pushed another male student down to the ground and began striking him, Bauer says.

Then, another male student "full force hit" a fourth male student, who suffered "serious head trauma," Bauer says.

The teenager with head injuries was airlifted by helicopter from the school, located on Apple Ridge Road in Gaithersburg, to an area hospital where he is in stable condition.

Bauer says the cause of the fight is still under investigation and charges are pending against the two students who are accused in the assaults.

Classes were not disrupted because of the incident.
