Train strikes car on Anacostia River Bridge

November 28, 2009 - 12:51pm
WASHINGTON - One person was injured after a car was struck by a train and pushed into the Anacostia River.

The accident happened around 5:45 a.m., when a CSX train hit the car parked on the Anacostia River Railroad Bridge along M Street, SE.

The car ended up on its side in one to two feet of water, but the driver managed to get out before rescuers arrived. Nobody else was in the car.

Peter Piringer, D.C. Fire and E.M.S. spokesman, says one person was treated for non-serious injuries at a local hospital.

CSX says there are no service interruptions, and the accident doesn't affect Amtrak trains.
