Woman killed after being hit by school bus

November 12, 2009 - 7:45am
BETHESDA, MD. - A 60-year-old woman was struck and killed by a school bus on Arlington Road at Moorland Lane in Bethesda.

The accident happened in front of Bethesda Elementary school around 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Montgomery County Police say the bus was making a left hand turn out of the school parking lot.

Sheila Clark Humphries was trying to cross Arlington Road when the bus struck her. She died at Suburban Hospital.

WTOP has been told the woman was in the crosswalk at the time, but it's not clear if the "walk" sign was flashing.

Five children on the bus at the time of the accident were not harmed.

The driver, 43-year-old Gilbert Ventura Fuentes of Hyattsville, remained on the scene and was released after being questioned by police. He was not injured.
