3 local principals named Environmental Educators of the Year

November 11, 2009 - 8:45am
HERNDON, Va. - Three Fairfax County principals have been named Environmental Educators of the Year.

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation gave the honors to Debra Lane of Rolling Valley Elementary, Sal Rivera of Flint Hill Elementary and Dwayne Young of Centreville Elementary. Each promoted environmental education and sought to include more outdoor experiences into the curricula.

The three principals were key in the creation of a teacher professional development program, "Chesapeake Classrooms," which promotes environmental education.

"Each of these school leaders has truly gone above and beyond for environmental education and the Chesapeake Bay," says Don Baugh, CBF vice president for education."

The Educator of the Year Award was created in 1997. This year's awards were presented during the Virginia Association of Science Teachers' annual award dinner in Herndon.
