Frederick health officials to answer H1N1 questions

The Frederick County Health Department will hold a community presentation on pandemic H1N1 flu (swine flu) at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Goddard School.

This event will include time for questions and answers. Topics include:

Seasonal and pandemic H1N1 flu overview.

High-risk groups for seasonal flu vs. H1N1 flu.

Answers to common questions about seasonal and pandemic H1N1 flu vaccines.

What you need to know about contacting your health care provider.

Dr. Barbara Brookmyer, the county's health officer, will lead the presentation.

The school is at 2080 Yellow Springs Road, Frederick . Use the main front entrance.

Comment sought on child support guidelines

The Maryland Department of Human Resources is seeking public comment on revising child support guidelines in Maryland.

The department is the agency responsible for collecting and distributing child support payments.

Child support amounts have not increased since 1988, and more than 200,000 children in the state rely on child support, the department said in a news release.

The department is holding public hearings around the state. The hearing taking place closest to Frederick County will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, 51 Mannakee St., Theatre Arts Building, Theatre Arts Arena, Room 156.

Brunswick parade to honor veterans

Ceremonies preceding the City of Brunswick 's 77th annual Veterans Day Parade will start at 1 p.m. Sunday, followed by the parade at 2 p.m.

One of the oldest parades in Maryland, this year's celebration includes more than 200 units from four states. The event will honor all veterans with special recognition for the U.S. Navy.

Honored guest Vice Adm. John Poindexter was deputy national security adviser and national security adviser during the Reagan administration.

Other honored guests include Korean War veteran Chip Chipley and Delegate Rick Weldon. Masters of ceremonies will be Frederick County Emergency Communications director Chip Jewell and radio talk show host Blaine Young.

For the 15th consecutive year, the Brunswick parade has again been chosen by the Veterans Day National Committee as a regional site.

Parking is available at the MARC train lot. This event is held rain or shine.
