2 Dead, 3 Injured in shooting in Northeast DC

October 13, 2009 - 9:23pm

WASHINGTON - Two people are dead, and three others are injured in a shooting in a northeast Washington neighborhood.

Fire department spokesman Pete Piringer says three of them have life-threatening injuries.

Piringer says the shooting happened shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday in the 5200 block of Clay Terrace in northeast D.C. In the past, police have raided the neighborhood because it has been home to a drug market.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier says all the victims were between 16 and 18 years of age.

Lanier is urging any witnesses to speak to police.

"Unless people start to come forward and give us information, it might not be your child today, but if we don't stop this, it could be," Lanier says. "I think the sentiment of the people I talked to here is there tired of this, they want it to stop."

Lanier says the investigation is still early but she says this may be an on-going dispute between neighborhoods.

A second man, who was shot in the head, died at a hospital later.

Mayor Adrian Fenty says the neighborhood was the scene of a drug and gun raid last year.

Police are looking for a black SUV with tinted windows that was seen leaving the Clay Terrace area.
