Chain-reaction crash creates Saturday morning traffic mess

WASHINGTON - A chain-reaction accident this morning is to blame for an accident this morning that closed the Outer Loop of the Beltway this morning.

Virginia State Police say a car broke down in the center lane of the Outer Loop between the Eisenhower and Telegraph Road exits, around 6 a.m.

Four cars were able to successfully stop behind the disabled vehicle, but a fifth car slammed into the back of the line, causing each car to hit the one in front of it.

The driver of the final car is charged with reckless driving.

Seven people were treated for minor injuries.
