WASHINGTON - Teenagers living in Virginia could soon face a new form of punishment for skipping school.
Teens who miss school for ten or more days in a row without a legitimate excuse, could have their driver's licenses suspended in Virginia.
A new law that takes effect July 1 in the Commonwealth allows juvenile judges to suspend a truant teenager's license for as long as they think is necessary, even up until the student turns 18.
Kids caught driving after their license is suspended will be charged with a misdemeanor. If convicted, they'll face up to a year in jail and fines of up to $2,500.
