VIENNA, Va. - A 79-year-old man has died after a confrontation outside his home with a phone company technician.

The 79-year-old homeowner was unhappy with the work completed at his home on Ayrhill Avenue on Wednesday, Vienna Police spokesman Bill Murray says.

After the installation was complete, the man went outside, followed the technician to his van and began arguing with the Verizon employee.

"The technician began to drive away and as he did, the homeowner reached in through the van window and grabbed onto the steering wheel," Murray says.

The man then fell onto the ground and was transported to a hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Police say some people witnessed the incident. No charges have been filed.

"We have to find out how exactly the gentleman died, and go from there. There is a lot of investigation still left to do," Murray says.

Verizon says it is cooperating with police during the investigation of this "tragic accident."
