Kory holds 66-vote lead over Hull

June 10, 2009 - 4:20am
WASHINGTON - Fairfax County Board of Education L. Kaye Kory holds a 66-vote lead over long-time Virginia Delegate Robert D. "Bob" Hull in Virginia's Democratic primary.

With 100 percent of the precincts reports, the unofficial results show Kory, 62, leading with 2,535 votes to Hull's 2,469.

Kory has been the school board's Mason District representative since 1999. First elected in 1992, Hull has never had a primary challenger.

The November election pits the winner against Republican Danny Smith.

The race in the heavily Democratic 38th District, a Fairfax County district that borders Falls Church and Arlington County, turned out to be the only one that was even close.

In the 35th District in Fairfax County, former Federal Communications Commission employee Mark L. Keam had 55.14 percent of the vote. Four people ran in that seat.

Patrick A. Hope, an adjunct professor of health at Johns Hopkins University, appears to be the winner of the five-way primary race in the 47th District in Arlington. Hope has 36.60 percent of the vote.

In Prince William County's 52nd District, Dumfries pastor Luke Torian defeated former Secret Service agent Michael Hodge 68.1 percent to 31.84 percent.
