13-year-old boy shot in Mount Pleasant

May 17, 2009 - 2:02pm
WASHINGTON-- A 13-year-old boy was shot in the ankle as he rode his bike in Mount Pleasant Saturday night.

The shooting happened in the 1800 block of Monroe Street near 19th Street around 11p.m.

The boy is expected to make a full recovery. Shots may have been fired near a home known for illegal activity in the neighborhood. The boy did not live in the immediate area.

This latest shooting is one of several violent incidents to happen in Ward 1 this weekend.

Early Saturday morning, two D.C. police officers were involved in a shootout in Adams Morgan that left 18-year-old Michael Griffin dead.

The officers were working undercover on a robbery detail when they say a fight broke out near the intersection of Champlain Street and Kalorama Road, NW.

Police say Griffin started shooting and would not drop his gun. The two officers chased the suspect and exchanged gunfire that ended up killing Griffin.

One officer was shot in the back and another suffered a superficial wound to the back of the leg in the incident. The officers are expected to be okay.

A third shooting happened Friday night in the Columbia Heights neighborhood.

Officers found the body of 20-year-old Marcus Robinson lying in the 3000 block of 14th Street, NW.

Police are looking for two suspects who were seen leaving the scene in a red Jeep Cherokee with unknown license plates.
