Amtrak accident delays trains arriving in D.C.

January 4, 2009 - 9:00pm
UNDATED - An accident involving a Washington, D.C. bound Amtrak train has disrupted service in the Northeast Corridor.

Around 6 p.m. Sunday evening, an Amtrak train hit a person on the tracks between Trenton, New Jersey and Philadelphia. Nobody on the train was hurt.

Amtrak tells WTOP that 15 trains were stopped near the scene, causing a major disruption in service. Amtrak has reopened the area, and trains are moving again.

Trains arriving from cities north of Washington, including trains from New York, Philadelphia and Boston are delayed 2 to 3 hours.

All trains leaving to destinations north of Washington are leaving on time.
