WASHINGTON -- The two girls found in their adopted mother's freezer in September were asphyxiated, according to an autopsy by the Maryland Medical Examiner's office.

Montgomery County detectives say Jasmine Nicole Bowman and Minnet Cecila Bowman were murdered in Montgomery County. The girls, who were 9 and 11, were found dead in a Calvert County freezer Sept. 27.

Renee Bowman, their adopted mother, has not been charged with their murders. She remains behind bars in Calvert County on attempted murder charges related to a third daughter, a 7-year-old who was found wandering her neighborhood.

The family had lived in Montgomery County, Prince George's County, Charles County and Calvert County, as well as D.C., where the girls were adopted.
