WASHINGTON -- Metro is used to riders complaining about the system's performance. Now the transit agency wants to pay for that kind of feedback from a consultant.

Metro will ask its board of directors Thursday to approve a deal that would award a sole source contract of $500,000 to Gayland Moffat Consulting. The firm would perform a complete organizational review of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's operations.

The transit agency hopes the review will offer insight into how to improve reliability, efficiency and customer service.

Metro has not met recent performance goals with rail and bus operations. This review would look at issues such as training, planning and scheduling.

Gayland Moffat Consulting is the same firm that was used for an assessment in 2007, when hundreds of jobs at Metro were slashed.

Lisa Farbstein, Metro spokeswoman, says there are no current plans to cut more jobs at the transit agency.
