WASHINGTON -- It's about to get a lot easier to call your local government -- as easy as dialing 911.
Later this month, District residents will be able to reach any District employee or service by calling a three-digit number.
By dialing 311, residents will be able to reach "any city service" from snow removal to contacting a D.C. employee, Mayor Adrian Fenty says.
Fenty says the new number could go into effect within the next two weeks.
There will be no changes to 911.
The current city number, 202-727-1000, will still work during the transition.
