Montgomery County Police say Leonardo Giovanni Sendehas died at the hospital Tuesday a short time after emergency crews responded to a home on the 3600-block of Bel Pre Road in Aspen Hill.
The state medical examiner is trying to determine the cause of the boy's death.
Police say after receiving a 911 call that was disconnected, they responded to the apartment where they the found the toddler and his 18-year-old mother.
Police spokeswoman Lucille Baur says no one has been charged with the crime.
