Staph Infection Found in School

September 28, 2007 - 4:26am
SEVERNA PARK, Md. (AP) - Three Severna Park High School students and two adult school employees have a staph infection.

Football coach P.J. Hines says MRSA is a pretty nasty illness. Health officials say the skin condition is spread by skin-to-skin contact.

One other student is being evaluated, The (Annapolis) Capital is reporting.

County health officials said the school's locker rooms should be cleaned with a bleach solution -- and school principal Jason Dykstra says that's been done.

Seventeen-year-old Kyle Kushner told the Capital he had a staph infection in his ankle. He said he discovered it Friday in a cut that happened two weeks ago. He said he was tired and had swollen joints before he was hospitalized this week.
