Worker on Bay Bridge Hurt

September 25, 2007 - 6:02pm
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Westbound traffic on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge is closed as an ambulance takes an injured worker to the hospital.

A spokeswoman for the Maryland Transportation Authority says the worker was a male electrical contractor working near the middle of the bridge when he fell, landing on a lower level of the bridge. He did not fall into the water.

Spokeswoman Kelly Melhem says his injuries are "very minor." She says workers are doing preliminary work on the span to prepare it for redecking this fall.

Melhem says traffic is closed on the westbound span but should re-open before rush hour is over. Both lanes on the eastbound span are open.
