Students in Trouble Over Guns in Fairfax

May 22, 2007 - 4:44pm
Hank Silverberg, WTOP Radio

HAYFIELDS SECTION, Va. - Six students from a Fairfax County middle school are in trouble.

Five of them have been charged with either selling or buying pellet guns, and the sixth has been charged with a narcotics offense discovered during the gun investigation.

A teacher spotted a money exchange in the Hayfield Secondary School restroom and alerted police around 11 a.m. on May 11. The students, who range in age from 12 to 14, were arrested Tuesday.

In Virginia, you must be at least 16 years old to legally own a pellet gun. It is also against school rules to bring guns to school.

The students could face fines as well as school disciplinary charges.
