US stocks open slightly lower after jobs report

NEW YORK (AP) — The U.S. stock market opened slightly lower as traders looked over the latest jobs report.

Humana sank 8 percent after the health insurer reported earnings that fell short of forecasts.

Before the market opened, the U.S. government reported solid job gains for October and a decline in the unemployment rate.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index edged down three points, or 0.2 percent, to 2,028 of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time Friday.

The Dow Jones industrial average lost 44 points, or 0.3 percent, to 17,510. The Nasdaq composite fell six points, or 0.1 percent, to 4,632.

The Dow and S&P 500 closed at record highs the day before.

Bond prices rose. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note slipped to 2.36 percent.
