DETROIT (AP) — Falling gas prices appear to be encouraging car buyers, and most of the major automakers are reporting increased sales for October.
The exception is Ford. Its sales fell 2 percent as it cut back on F-Series pickup sales ahead of the launch of a new F-150 later this year.
General Motors, Chrysler, Nissan and Honda all reported gains. GM says its Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks both posted gains above 10 percent, but its overall U.S. sales rose just 0.2 percent.
Chrysler had its best October since 2001. Its sales were up 22 percent, led by a 52 percent increase for its red-hot Jeep brand and a 33 percent sales gain for Ram pickups.
Nissan attributes its 13 percent increase in sales to falling gas prices and high consumer confidence.
