UNDATED (AP) — Strong corporate earnings are pushing stocks higher even though there’s some geopolitical uncertainty. The market built steadily on its gains throughout the day yesterday, reversing nearly all of Thursday’s losses. The S&P 500 rose 1 percent. The Dow gained 0.7 percent and the Nasdaq climbed 1.6 percent. All three major indexes ended in the green for the week.
NEW YORK (AP) — The price of oil is down a bit but remains elevated because of political turmoil around the world. Benchmark U.S. crude for August delivery fell 6 cents to close at $103.13 a barrel in New York. It rose 2.2 percent for the week. Brent crude for September delivery, a benchmark for international oils, fell 65 cents to close at $107.24 in London.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — B. Roberts Foods is recalling approximately 200 pounds of grilled chicken entrees sold at Harris Teeter, because they were mislabeled and contain milk, an allergen not declared on the label. The top label of the 10-ounce packages that are being recalled reads “All Natural Grilled Chicken Strips.” The bottom label reads “Grilled Chicken Breast with Lemon Spaghettini.”
ATLANTA (AP) — A refrigerant called R22 is currently enjoying widespread use in the U.S. as an essential ingredient for residential air conditioners. But R22 harms the ozone layer and is being gradually phased out. There are approved substitutes for R22 but federal officials are warning that cheaper, unapproved coolant has cropped up on the black market and can be dangerous.
SOMERSET, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky city is venturing into the retail gas business. A city-run gas station opened to the public today on the outskirts of Somerset, selling regular unleaded gas for $3.36 a gallon. That’s three cents a gallon cheaper than at four nearby gas stations. The no-frills station does no repairs, sells no snacks and has only regular unleaded gas.
